REPORT: NY Hotels Boot Homeless Veterans to Shelter Released Migrants

Upstate New york city hotels apparently kicked homeless veterans from their residential or commercial properties to make room for migrants being bused to the region from New York City. The homeless veterans, lots of Vietnam-era veterans, were receiving momentary shelter in the hotels through the efforts of a not-for-profit company.

UPDATE May 19, 2023: A report from the Mid Hudson News suggests the story of veterans being displaced from hotels in favor of migrants is a scam. Breitbart News is investigating and will report further updates as we find out more.

Original story continues:

The New York Post reports that almost two lots homeless veterans “have actually been booted from the upstate hotels to include migrants.” Among the hotels told a 24-year-old Afghanistan war veteran their short-lived real estate was being taken out from under them and they would need to move somewhere else.

Sharon Toney-Finch, CEO of the Yerik Israel Toney Foundation, told the New York City Post, “Our veterans have been positioned in another hotel due to what’s going on with the immigrants.”

Toney-Finch said they moved the veterans from the Crossroads Hotel in Newburgh, New York City, to other neighboring motels and hotels. The homes lay about 20 minutes from where they were displaced.

Orange County, New York, is now the target of a migrant busing campaign by New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The mayor is moving the migrants out of his sanctuary city to Upstate New york city to alleviate migrant overcrowding in his city.

The veterans had actually been put in the first hotel under a four-week temporary real estate program while the nonprofit company tried to discover another service for their housing requirements. The veterans had to do with 2 weeks into the program “when they got the boot,” Toony-Finch stated.

“A great deal of them are Vietnam veterans. We do assist them on a continuous basis to get them benefits and help them find a place in society,” she discussed, including, “Now we have to work from ground zero. We simply lost that trust [with the vets]”

Republican New York City State Assemblyman Brian Maher informed the Post, “Shining a light on this is necessary because we require to make certain these hotels understand how important it is to appreciate the service of our veterans before they kick [them] out of hotels to make space.”

New York Democrat Congressman Pat Ryan, whose 18th congressional district covers the northern residential areas and exurbs of New york city City, took to social networks to condemn the “incompetence” of city authorities in displacing the homeless veterans.

New York Republican Congressman Marc Molinaro also took to social networks to knock the “definitely untenable” treatment of the homeless veterans, which he referred to as “the result of incompetence and absence of compassion.”

Tooney-Finch said the hotel made the move to expel the veterans based on cash. “They earn money more [for the migrants],” she specified. “That’s so unfair, since at the end of the day, we are a little nonprofit, and we do pay $88 a day for a veteran to be there.”

It is unclear what the city is spending for the housing of the bused migrants from New york city City.
