Spain’s Interior Ministry has revealed that it will be producing specialised “hate criminal activity” groups within the nationwide police and the Civil Gaurd to fight a reported increase in hate criminal activities.
Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, Secretary of State for Security, Rafael Pérez, the leaders of the National Workplace for the Battle versus Hate Crimes, and commanders of the National Police and Civil Guard took part in a conference today in which they agreed to produce the new cops units.
Held at the head office of the National Office of Hate Crimes in Madrid, the conference saw the government establish 8 top priorities for action in regard to dislike criminal activities, which have supposedly increased each year by around 9 percent since 2014, La Vanguardia reports.
Minister Grande-Marlaska talked about the cooperation the government has actually had with numerous NGOs on tackling hate criminal activities, stating: “Their collaboration has been essential to the execution of the very first action strategy and we are determined to more encourage their involvement and listen to their propositions.”
He included that the government wanted to work specifically with tackling anti-Roma Gypsy hate criminal offenses, which he stated have increased by 57 per cent in 2020 alone.

The new effort comes as Spanish populist celebration VOX has called for Minster Grande-Marlaska to resign from his post after the Interior Minister assaulted the populist celebration following an alleged attack on a homosexual male in Malasaña, a neighbourhood in Madrid, which turned out to later be false.
VOX accused the Interior Minister of “promoting hatred and violence against the third political force in Spain,” and the call for Grande-Marlaska’s resignation was likewise echoed by the leader of the Popular Celebration, Pablo Casado.
VOX leader Santiago Abascal commented on the problem on Twitter, stating: “The ruthless aggression, in the end, turned out to be a crude scam fed by the Federal government and its media lackeys to explain VOX.”
